The role of primary care
Regularly seeing your primary care provider is one of the best moves you can make to live a healthier life. When your provider knows you and your unique health needs, he or she can be your trusted partner for a healthy life, a healthier family, and a healthier community. You have choices for who you want to provide your primary healthcare: family medicine physicians for all ages, pediatricians for kids and teens, internal medicine physicians for adult-centric care – and you may see nurse practitioners and physician assistants for primary care as well.
In addition to helping you and your family through sickness and injury, your primary care provider is your most important connection for preventing illnesses in the first place. Seeing your provider to stay up to date on physical exams, health screenings, medications, and immunizations gives you the best possible chance at something we all want for ourselves and each other: lifelong health.
Primary care and immunizations
An easy way to help stop the spread of infectious diseases is through routine vaccinations recommended by your provider. Your primary care provider can give most immunizations during an office visit in just a few minutes.
From years of proven, reliable medical and scientific study, we are fortunate to have safe, effective vaccines that prevent many potentially serious (or even deadly) illnesses, such as whooping cough, measles, chickenpox, meningitis, HPV, pneumonia, shingles, and more. Consult your primary care provider to ensure you and yours have all the immunity you can get.
Find a vaccine provider near you
Your primary care provider is your number one advocate for helping you ensure your family is current on all recommended vaccinations, but there are many places in your local community to receive them – like the ones shown below.
